📖 The tournament story
In the Kingdom of Chess, there is a piece that is often underestimated: the Pawn. But not just any pawn – the Fearless one. It does not move only one step forward. It knows how to attack diagonally, promote into the most powerful pieces, and cross the entire board to the finish line.
In this edition, the Fearless Pawn challenges all the knights of the kingdom to a race of the mind: who can solve the hardest questions, find the hidden promotion, and save the game in a single move?
Get ready to think like a strategist, attack like a bishop, and run like a pawn toward victory!

Deep understanding of the pawn's moves – attack, capture, en passant, promotion.

Developing combinational vision – children learn to “see” the solution in 1-3 moves.

👧👦 Who is it for?
All levels – from beginners (simple puzzles: give up, capture) to advanced players (3-4 move puzzles, pawn checkmate).

Recommended age: 5–15 years old (puzzles differentiated by age and experience categories).

Tournament type: Puzzle challenge – no full board needed, just a sharp mind.

📜 Simple rules (for children)
Each participant receives 10 puzzles (on screen or on paper).

Each puzzle shows a chess position where a pawn plays the main role.

Task: find the best move (it may be: capture, defend, promote, or make en passant).

Time per puzzle: maximum 3 minutes. After 3 minutes – wrong answer.

Scoring:

Correct answer: 10 points

Correct answer in less than 1 minute: 15 points

Wrong answer: 0 points, but you receive the explanation immediately (guaranteed learning).

At the end, the points are added up – the Fearless Pawn of the edition wins.

Do not look at another classmate's screen.

If you do not know the answer, make a polite guess, do not give up.

After the tournament, you can ask: “How did you think?” – that is how we learn together.

Every mistake is a step forward – no pawn becomes a queen on the first try.

🧠 Example puzzle (for parents)
Position: White king on g1, white rook on f1, white pawn on g7. Black king on h8.
Question: What is the move that wins immediately?
Answer: g8=Q (promotion to a queen with checkmate).
(This teaches children: the power of a pawn that reaches the end!)

📅 When and how?
When: Saturday or Sunday (2 hours of challenge)

Where: Online, on the Kingdom of Chess platform – or offline in the puzzle room.

Duration: 90 minutes (10 puzzles + awards ceremony).

Registration: individual – each child receives a temporary account.

Fee: 25 lei (includes diploma, digital badges, and access to the tutorial "The Secret Pawn").
